About Days Market

Gerald Day moved his family from Bountiful, Utah to the Heber Valley on July 1st, 1972. After spending 18 years with Albertsons, he thought it was time to start his own business where he could make decisions that were best for his guests, and moved his wife Lela, and his children away from the rush of the Wasatch Front. Upon arriving in town the Days took over operation of what was known as the Heber Exchange, a pioneer structure with two floors located at Center and Main Street.

In July of 1973 Days Market opened a 11,000 square foot store just behind the old Exchange building. In 1979, and in 1986 the store was remodeled. Enlarged by 5,000 square feet for each remodel.

During this time Gerald served 22 years on the Board of Directors of Associated Foods, the largest supermarket warehouse in the Mountain West. Twelve of those years as Chairman. Over the years Days have owned stores in Heber City, Park City, Vernal, Alpine, Hyrum, Provo, Payson, Nephi, and Diamondville, Wyoming.

Many changes have taken place in the Days organization through the past twenty-six years. Along with the new Heber store, Days still operate a store in Provo, Utah. After an intense search for the right location Days Market opened its newest, and most modern facility at 890 South Main Street in Heber City on February 23, 1998.

Gerald's four sons, Byron, Alan, Steve, and Carl bought the rights of the Heber operation. They will continue to operate as Days Market. The store is 43,000 square feet. It features a nostalgic farmers market environment that includes an authentic cider mill and thematic decor.

About 1/3 of the store is devoted to a food court featuring fresh produce, deli, bakery, bulk foods general merchandise and floral departments. An open ceiling, period decor and special lighting create a farmers market-like atmosphere. The remainder of the store is constructed with a drop ceiling, conventional shelving and soft fluorescent lighting.

The store offers the convenience of a branch office of America First Credit Union, a pharmacy, as well as full lines of grocery, frozen, dairy, health and beauty care items. Construction began in July 1997. Days Market in Heber City is a member of the Market Place Advertising Group.

  • Byron Day grew up in a home where the grocery business was most of the daily conversation. He worked at Albertsons until I was 22 years old in 3 different stores. In 1972, his father Gerald Day bought the old Heber Exchange and changed the name to Day’s Market. Byron has worked at many positions in various departments. Most of his experience has been in grocery, meat and produce in both the Heber and Provo locations. His favorite part of the business is the people he has had the opportunity to rub shoulders with, both guests and team members. He is the President of the company, and is married to his sweetheart Lesa. They have four children and five grandchildren. Byron enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and their horses.
  • Alan Day is a Vice President of both companies overseeing operations, and manager of the Provo store. He and his family reside in Heber City.
  • Steven Day is a Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer of both companies, and manages the Heber City store. Steve grew up in the grocery business working his younger years in an Albertson’s store his dad managed, trimming produce, bagging chickens and sorting soda pop bottles. At the age of 16, he officially worked as a bag boy and on the freight crew. In 1972, his dad Gerald Day bought the Heber Exchange grocery store in Heber City Utah and started Day’s Market on July 1 of that year. Steve has worked for Day’s Market since that time with the exception of a 2 year LDS Church mission to the Tongan Islands from 1975-1977. He became a store manager over 30 years ago, in 1979 and has been the store manager in Park City, Alpine, Vernal, Provo and Heber City, Utah. Steve says, “I have enjoyed each location and enjoyed our guests I have been part of serving in these towns.” Steve lives in Provo and works in the Heber City store. He takes pleasure in spending time with my wife Paula, his 4 children and 5 grandchildren, golfing, photography, traveling, collecting Coca Cola items, soda pop bottles and grocery antiques.
  • Carl Day is a Vice President and Front End Manager of both companies. He currently resides in Heber City.
