After many years of supporting activities and academic endeavors, Days Market has stepped up once again and offered their services to provide a special celebration in honor of the opening of the new Wasatch High School.
Saturday morning, August 29th, an old fashion carnival and barbecue will be sponsored by Day’s Market at the high school to welcome those who are coming to attend the open house that day. The carnival and open house will begin at 10:00 a.m. that morning.
3 Days of Activities
The carnival and barbecue will be the final part of the three day celebration. On Thursday, August 27th, a special "Book Passing" event will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the old high school followed by the final retiring of the colors. At 6:00 p.m., the dedication ceremony will begin at the front doors of the new high school with Governor Gary Herbert, Congressman Jim Matheson and Representative Kraig Powell participating. That ceremony will be followed by the initial open house for the school.
On Friday, August 28th, an alumni football game will be played at 4:00 p.m. followed by Wasatch High’s first home football game of the season against Ben Lomond. At 9:00 p.m. a community dance will be held in the commons of the new school and following that dance, a fireworks celebration will be held at 11:30 p.m.
Saturday will be the final open house for the school running from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the Days Market carnival and barbecue taking place on the WHS Plaza during that time.
Thanks to Days Market!
For decades, the Day family has been a huge part of the education community in Wasatch County. Besides being a sponsor of unnumbered extra-curricular activities in the district, they have also played a significant role working in the business classes, helping students to understand the ways that their education would translate into real-life job skills.
For the district celebration, Days Market will provide both games and food for the community. "We are very excited to be part of this grand opening," said Steven Day, manager of Heber City’s Day’s Market. "We will have a number of games and activities and will provide a free lunch for those who would like to participate."
The lunch will consist of hot dogs, chicken strips, potato salad, potato chips and drinks.
In addition to the food, there will be a number of games set up on the plaza at the front of the school. Football toss competitions, golf putting contests, ring toss, and watermelon seed spitting contests are but a part of the festivities.
School organizations will also set up fund raising booths which will showcase a dunking tank, and places to buy cotton candy and snow cones.
"Over the past many years, the folks from Days Market have been a constant fixture in our school," said Paul Sweat, WHS Principal. "It is very consistent with their willingness to help for them to do this for our guests," he said. "We thank them for all that they continually do for our kids."
In the spirit of the 100 year legacy of Wasatch High School, photo cutouts of early cheerleaders and football players from Wasatch will be provided to allow guests to take their own pictures as participants of the early history of the school.
"We love Wasatch High School and are proud to have been a part of its history," said Steven Day. "Now, we are excited to be part of the future as well, as we continue to work with the schools in the district to help them provide quality education to the children of the valley." Day’s Market will also be unveiling their new "green" shopping bag, designed by Wasatch High student Carly Harmon, who received a $1,000.00 scholarship for the winning design.
"We cannot thank Day’s Market enough for their generosity," said Superintendent Terry Shoemaker. "For them to step up and provide so many things for our guests, at their own expense, is a marvelous thing. Our valley is fortunate to have such outstanding people leading our community."
