Chris Hummer: Days Market Produce Manager

Chris has 25 years of produce experience. He spent 10 years working as a produce merchandiser for Associated Foods Stores. He started with an independent retailer in northern California named Roger Wilco. The store, Roger Wilco’s owners gave the store this name because it was located next to a United States Air Force base. Chris has worked the past 10 years as the produce department manager here at Day’s Market. He is a weather observer for the National Weather Service. He likes bee keeping and currently has 3 hives. He enjoys harvesting honey and bees wax. Did we mention he likes NASCAR?

Have you ever walked over to a produce section in a store and marveled at the absence of basic produce items? You'll never need to worry about the basics at Days Market. Not only do we have all the produce you want, it's fresh, gorgeous, and plentiful, to boot.

You will be surprised by some of the extra produce we carry -- unique items like taro root, green bananas, coconuts, papayas, mangos, cactus, jalapeno peppers, cilantro, and more. And if you don't see something you need, ask us about it, we may be able to get it for you.

Organic Offerings

Organic foods are made according to certain production standards. For the vast majority of human history, agriculture can be described as organic; only during the 20th century were a large supply of new and often untested synthetic chemicals, touted as improvements, introduced to the food supply. This more recent style of production is referred to as "conventional," though organic production has been the convention for a much greater period of time.

In addition to our non-organic selection of produce, Days Market offers a good selection of packaged organic produce, like leaf lettuce, broccoli, baby and regular carrots, apples, lemons, potatoes, baby spinach salads, baby greens, and organic romaine salads. Keep in mind that product availability varies from season to season and store to store.

Our produce department managers and employees are happy to assist you with premade party trays or custom made fruit baskets - no need to call ahead of time, either, just come in and ask. You'll usually find a guest service associate in the produce department ready to assist with special orders or answer questions from early morning until 10pm in the evenings. Other Seasonal Offerings

Like to grow your own veggies? During the late spring and summer months we offer vegetable bedding plants, including tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini squash. You'll also find perennials to dress up your flower garden, including petunias, snapdragons, pansies, primrose, and geraniums. Our bedding plant and perennial availability varies widely from store to store throughout the growing season, so just come by your favorite Days Market and see what's set out front of the store that day!
